About Michael Dereza
Michael Dereza is a Toronto‑based digital abstract artist creating geometric, color‑driven works that use light, depth, and optical illusion to transform how viewers experience space.

Michael Dereza is a Toronto based digital abstract artist whose work explores how color, geometry, and light shape visual perception. His radiant compositions create immersive optical environments that shift and evolve with sustained viewing.
Influenced by Op Art, Abstract Expressionism, and Conceptual Art, Dereza combines traditional artistic principles with contemporary digital techniques. He translates principles of painting and design into a digital framework, treating the pixel as a building block much like a brushstroke.
He studied History and Fine Art at the University of Toronto and design at Sheridan College.

Michael, a visual artist of Ukrainian heritage, was born in Charleroi, Belgium, and now resides and works in Toronto. He studied History and Fine Art at the University of Toronto, and advanced studies at Sheridan College of Applied Arts & Technology.
Michael’s primary practice extends into the digital realm, where he dedicates his focus to crafting complex visual illusions.
These digital pieces critically examine the dynamic relationship between abstract geometry, vibrant hues, and diverse light sources, echoing the foundational principles of Op Art, Abstract Expressionism, and Conceptual Art.
Spanning over three decades, Michael’s artistic journey is rooted in earlier explorations, executed in acrylic and mixed media on canvas, paper, and hard surfaces. This foundational work was marked by a dynamic investigation into the interplay of shapes, textures, and vivid color.
Michael’s work is held in private collections across Canada and Hungary.
